The jsh has several modes of operation, "jsh/sh/msh" modes. In "jsh" mode, commands are executed directly without any conversion (so '*' is not expanded for instance). In sh and msh modes commands are passed to the NT command processor. The DIR command is not a command as such, but is built in to the NT command processor, so in order to run this from the jsh you must be in sh/msh mode (the F2 or F3 keys will change this).
Note: there is a similar command called 'jdir' that will work in all jsh modes.
